Evaluation and assessment have been integral to any efforts towards improving quality of higher education aimed at developing thoughtful, well-rounded, and creative individuals and society. Hence there is a need to critically understand assessment and evaluation in its historic context, contemporary concerns, and importantly broader purpose of higher education.
The Center has been conceived to enable HEIs create motivating, inclusive, and fear-free learning spaces. The programs designed and facilitated by the Center and also in partnership with other institutions enables teachers and other participants to reflect on the difference between ‘assessment as learning’, ‘assessment for learning’ and ‘assessment of learning’. It introduces various methods for formative assessment wherein teachers engage in a creative and critical process of designing assessment keeping in mind that the purpose is not so much about memory of the students and allotting grades but rather yet another way of enabling learning, reflection and articulation by the students.
