The preamble of the Constitution of India is a reflection of the core values and commitment of the State to ensure justice, liberty, equality to all its citizens. Thus, making it a mandate for central and state-level institutions to promote and ensure access and opportunity to every citizen. Formal educational institutions too are required to uphold access and opportunity for all students and provide safe and conducive learning opportunities to them. Appreciating diversity and devising appropriate measures for inclusion needs to be a non-negotiable value of all educational institutions including higher education. The educational institutions and its people need to be sensitive and advocate measures against any kind of discrimination and/or biases be it on the basis of gender, sex, sexuality, caste, religion, language, ethnicity, (dis)ability and any other form of socio-geo-pol-cultural identity.
The Center designs and facilitates programs and also partners with organisations to sensitise teachers, students and other stakeholder in HEIs to the principles of equality, equity and inclusion as a non-negotiable cross-cutting value. The programs encourage HEIs to build a safe and conducive environment for students from diverse backgrounds to be able access, enroll and continue learning. Thereby, work towards making educational institutions inclusive for all as also contribute towards building an inclusive society.
