Program Overview

The program builds on the principles of inclusive education laid out in Rights of the Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and the National Education Policy 2020. The program emphasises is on the need for higher education to be holistic and inclusive. It sensitises and equips teacher-participant to builds an inclusive mindset and commit to adopting an inclusive approach to curriculum and learning engagement by adopting affirmative action initiatives to address disabilities related to access and learning.

Program Content

The program introduces participant-teachers towards a range of disabilities, available key assistive technologies along with principles of inclusive education. In keeping with the broad objective of the program, topics like physical and neuro-development disabilities, rights and legal frameworks for persons-with-disabilities, concept of inclusion, introduction to assistive technologies are covered. The participatory and experiential methodology enables teacher-participant explore various strategies and methods to make classrooms as inclusive learning spaces.

Knowledge Partner

St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai has been leading the way in the space of inclusive education. The Xavier’s Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC) at the college is a state-of-the-art advocacy and awareness centre in the space of inclusive education. XRCVC since its inception in the year 2003 has reached out to many educational institutions – schools and colleges – bringing about a shift in attitude, knowledge and skills thereby enabling inclusion in educational spaces.
